Our decking process
Nakul Tooke, our Construction Manager will arrange a final check measure of the project. Nakul will ring to organise a time to come out and finalise details of your contracted works. Nakul will go over the design, finalise the colours, check measurements and clarify any other aspects of your project. Once the check measure has been completed, the materials for your project will then be ordered, and your project will be placed in the construction calendar waiting to commence! Nakul will advise an anticipated construction start date or approximate wait time before construction will commence.
During the design consultation, Nakul will meet with you and discuss your outdoor living and entertaining plans. During this meeting Nakul will undertake a site analysis to identify design solutions that capitalise on your homes strengths, and opportunities. Nakul will then brief you on possible design solutions and with your input will present a concept design. This concept design will then be presented in a detailed proposal with specifications and pricing for your perusal.
Many of our projects require some form of approval and we have made it super easy for our clients to navigate through this. Depending on the type of approval, this could take up to 6 – 8 weeks. If you have had any previous renovations completed on your home – we will request copies of approval documents, drawings, plans and surveys as these can be used to expedite the preliminary stages of the approval process.
Shane will call you when all materials are ready to confirm a start date. We will then appoint one of our expertly trained construction teams to your project. Materials will be delivered to your home and unloaded. The construction team will then start prepping the area. This may include demolishing and removing any existing structures. Taking their time, once the area if fully prepared – the team will start prepping beams and posts, dig out footings, start framework etc. Construction may take 4 days to 8 weeks, depending on the size of the project!
Shane will communicate with you throughout the construction process. He will keep you closely updated as to when your new outdoor living and entertaining area will be completed. When our construction team have finished and any additional trades have also completed their finishing touches (eg electrician has finished installing new lighting) – the structure will be detailed and cleaned. It is also at this point that any remaining building debris and waste will be removed. We will not consider your project complete until Nakul, the Construction Manager has conducted a final inspection. When Nakul advises your works are complete – we will issue a final invoice and provide information on the “after-care” of your building structure.
Which Timber to Use for Decking?
Composite Decking
Made from a mix of wood fibres and recycled plastic, composite decking is an easy and environmentally friendly alternative to timber. Popular brands, like Ekodeck and Modwood, offer highly weather-resistant products designed specifically for Australian backyards.
Ekodeck
Ekodeck is a low-maintenance composite decking made from recycled materials. It’s durable, long-lasting and won’t splinter, warp or require painting — ideal for modern outdoor spaces.
Modwood
ModWood is an Australian composite deck board that’s built to resist weather, termites and fading. It offers a smooth, splinter-free finish with virtually no maintenance.
Hardwoods
Hardwood are a great option for Australian decks – they’re extremely durable, highly resilient and can look, feel and even smell great. Popular hardwoods include Jarrah, Spotted Gum and Merbau, which is the most common timber decking in Australia.
Merbau
The colour of Merbau is described as a yellow-orange brown hue that will deepen to a deepened reddish brown colour with age.
Jarrah
The heartwood varies from rich reds to deep browns, with sapwood being a clearly distinguished pale yellow.
Spotted gum
Spotted Gum The heartwood colour range is quite broad from very pale browns through to dark browns
